DIPLOMA PROGRAM
The
International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) is a non-profit organization
based in Geneva, Switzerland whose mission statement below outlines their
education goals.
I.B. Diploma Program: A program with an international focus The courses are designed by scholars from around the world The IB Diploma is recognized by leading universities Advanced placement or credit in some university courses is granted to successful graduates I.B. Diploma Objectives: To develop a desire to seek intellectual excellence. To promote the ideals of international understanding and responsible citizenship, to become critical and compassionate thinkers, to be lifelong learners and informed participants in local and world affairs. To become conscious of the shared humanity that binds all people together while respecting the variety of cultures and attitudes that makes for the richness of life I.B. Diploma Curriculum: Study of the major academic disciplines in math, science, and the humanities Theory of Knowledge - a course dealing with philosophical questions of truth, values and the nature of knowledge The Extended Essay - independent research and preparation of a 4000 word essay C.A.S. - activities involving creativity, action and service - including extra- curricular school activities as well as activities and service within the community IB Diploma Program Organization at Mac: A two year program for grades 11 and 12 The Alberta Curriculum is covered and appropriate credits are earned Grade 10 Honours courses may be used as IB -Prep and are designed to extend the skills and knowledge required for the IB program I.B. Diploma: Grades 11 and 12 *Students interested in registering in the International Baccalaureate Diploma program in grade eleven should register in honours program or MYP in grade ten. - English HL - French B SL or HL and/or Italian ab initio SL - History HL - Biology HL and/or Chemistry SL and/or Physics SL - Mathematics SL - Theory Of Knowledge (T.O.K.) - Creativity, Action, and Service (C.A.S.) - An Extended Essay The IB Diploma requires successful completion of 3 HL courses and 3 SL courses, TOK, CAS and the Extended Essay. The IB Diploma is recognized worldwide by leading universities. The student may receive advanced placement and/or credit for outstanding achievement. The I.B. Certificate Program Enrollment permitting, students may register in individual IB subjects. Students in the IB Certificate program are not required to take the Theory of Knowledge or complete the Extended Essay and the C.A.S. component. Successful candidates receive a subject specific IB Certificate which is also recognized by leading universities for possible advanced placement or advanced credit. |
