Logo Explanation




To celebrate the Jubilee Year (2000) of the Roman Catholic Church, the members of the school community have developed a logo that presents a sense of Archbishop MacDonald High School's character that compliments and extends symbols traditionally associated with the school. Athena Photinopolous (class of 1999), using suggestions from parents, teachers and students developed the basic design and in consultation gradually refined the logo into its basic form. Andrew Lee (class of 2000) added colour and refined the representations. As is consistent with symbols, all the components suggest a multiplicity of meanings. The following outlines capture the richness of the insights shared by the many contributors.

The Cross - the unifying force (one of our key symbols as Christians)
Chi and Rho - the first two letters of Christ's name in Greek (reminds us of our Greek roots)
The Text - we are people of the Word - in both secular and sacred writing (represents searching, learning, understanding, communication)
The Fire - central flame signifies Christ .
The Semi-Circle - all of Christ's followers (teachers, students, families, and parishes)
The M - the School Letter with the Bishop's staff represents:
