ABOUT
THE LIBRARY > Policies & Procedures
The LRC is meant to be a positive and productive place for academic
pursuits such as concentrated, deliberate study and research, and
for instruction and learning. Students are expected to observe
the policies that are in place which support that primary
goal.
In order to continue to serve the Mac community with a quiet space
for study, reading and research – complete with rich collections
of resources – it is important that everyone be aware of the
policy for LRC use. You will find further details here and also
on line in the Mac Library under the heading ‘About the Library’.
The Learning Resource Centre is open Monday through Friday with
full service from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Students will find excellent
collections of print, audio, video, and technology resources to
support their study, research, and leisure reading and viewing.
LRC computers and other equipment are for academic purposes only,
with class use taking priority over individual use.
Students must come to the LRC with necessary materials, including
a student I.D., and be prepared to work. Study carrels are for silent
study only and students must be respectful of the quiet,
working environment. Tables in the open area are for two
to six students working together. Please do NOT move the furniture.
There is a group study room for larger groups.
No food or drinks are allowed in the LRC. However, students can
bring in water at any time. Socializing is not permitted and students
will be asked to leave, and possibly have their LRC privileges suspended,
if they act in an irresponsible manner.
LOAN PERIODS
Mac High has a large inventory of learning resources, partly housed
the LRC and additionally in all the Subject Department libraries
throughout the building. A student will need their student I.D.
card in order to check out material at the Circulation desk in the
LRC. Materials not in the LRC but housed in any of the Subject Department
libraries can be circulated in the LRC or in the Department Offices.
Fiction and Non-Fiction
– 3 weeks
Videos (Informational
and Feature Films) and Periodicals (magazines) – 1 week
Non-circulating
materials include all Reference materials, daily newspapers and
music CDs.
Our expectation is that students will return or renew any materials
they check out by the due date. There is a Return Bin inside the
main doors to the LRC. Materials which are not renewed or returned
must be paid for in full. A reminder letter goes home to parents/guardians
when students are not taking responsibility for their materials.
